Blankets of Blessing

Towards the start of 2025 one of the guests at our Welcome Break seniors group, Pat Lynn (pictured), suggested knitting blankets to take to local care homes for Christmas.  We put the word out to the crochet group that meets at church, the local branch of the Women’s Institute, and many other keen knitters within the community.  Over the following months, some people knitted squares, others stitched them together, yet others added borders, and a member of the crochet group, Chrissy Brooks (pictured with the blankets) collated and washed the blankets, before wrapping them in a lavender-scented paper and decorating with a bow.

And so it was that a week before Christmas, we delivered 43 completed blankets to a local residential home, sang carols, shared the Christmas story and then personally gave a blanket to each resident, along with a prayer of blessing: ‘As you wrap this blanket around you, God wraps you in his love today, this Christmas and every day.  The Lord bless you and keep you, smile on you and give you his peace.’
