All the Lonely People: Loneliness in Later Life – The Age UK Loneliness Report
Many people experience loneliness at some point in their lives. For the majority the feeling of loneliness passes, yet for some it can persist, undermining their well-being and impacting negatively on their quality of life. Addressing loneliness amongst older people is an essential element of Age UK’s work, and has been for a number of years.
Age UK have been at the forefront of incorporating approaches to tackling loneliness into our everyday services and testing new ways to approach this issue to help further people’s understanding of what works. Their latest work has focused on further understanding loneliness among people aged 50 and over and has found that, if we don’t tackle loneliness, by 2026 there will be 2 million people over 50 in England who will often feel lonely. This will have a dramatic impact on their well-being and the quality of their lives.
