A Prayer for the Seasons of Life
Author: Faith in Later Life
Inspired by our video ‘Autumn’, Church Champion Cecilia from Verso Vineyard Church in Hertfordshire has written this heartfelt prayer for the seasons of life.
Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom, Lord;
to realise
the brevity of life
and not waste a single moment …
Oh, that we may
grow in wisdom
and not flitter away
precious time …
Worrying about tomorrow,
has never served any purpose,
As “today’s trouble
is enough for today.”
(As Jesus said)
After all, (and so He added)
“tomorrow will bring …
its own worries.”
And sure enough it will!
I’ve so loved this year’s
beautifully long summer,
Not wanting it to end …
Yet autumn has descended
and soon, that too, will end …
The beauty of the colours
Will mingle with early nights,
and just as autumn
replaced summer,
Winter too, will soon blend!
I didn’t want
summer to end,
I’m not welcoming
the winter season …
But Lord,
Worrying about
tomorrow
Will only rob
precious moments
I can be spending
today ….
So, please help me
Number my days,
That I may gain
this heart of wisdom;
Realise the brevity of life
and not waste
a single moment …
Time is precious
and ticking away …
Help me
not to worry
But live wisely
Each day.
Amen.
