Church Champions: Training

September Training Session: Mobilising churches and emerging from lockdown

Date

08/07/2021

Summary

  • The pandemic has had a huge impact on those in later life, and how we are able to offer them support. However, it also provides new opportunities and is a ‘new era’ for revised services and social care, and the local church.
  • Everyday ageism means that older people are not viewed as resources or as part of the solution in the recovery from the pandemic.
  • Example of Anna and Simeon (Luke 2:27-33).
  • Encouragement to remember that the church is a people not a building, especially significant during covid.
  • Highlighted The International Day for Older Persons (1st Oct), and a related Salvation Army resource which contains a template for a worship service, a sermon outline, and ideas for small group discussion. This resource will be shared with Faith in Later Life once it is published, expected in August. Do get in contact if you are interested in this resource.
