According to Age UK, more than a million older people say they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member. And almost 5 million older people feel out of touch with the pace of modern life.
The coronavirus pandemic this year has increased many people’s struggle with loneliness, isolation, and wellbeing. At Faith in Later Life, we are committed to seeing older people flourish in their faith, friendships, and communities. We think that as Christians, we have a responsibility to reach out, in love, to older people, especially in these challenging times.
Therefore, we want to create an opportunity for you to write and send Christmas postcards to older people in your church/community to let them know someone is thinking of them. Maybe you could send one to a person in your local care home (after checking with the care home first).
Join our Christmas Connections Initiative!
How can I take part? (Scroll down for images!)
All you need to do is email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) to let us know you want to be involved, we can then explain next steps, including how to purchase our specially designed packs of Christmas Postcards (£2.75 for a pack of 7), and we'll send them straight to you. If you are one of our Church Champions you'll get some for free. The image below is a collage of the designs. We'll also send you an information sheet, and help you think of who in your church/community you could bless with a Christmas postcard this year.
We will also ask for feedback from those involved, so that we can map our reach, and encourage you with the impact we've had. Let's bless those that may be feeling lonely this Christmas.
